A Special City Hall Wedding

If you have ever been to Boston City Hall, you know that it is not the most attractive building around. As ugly as it is, on Friday the 13th of this month, it was a very special place for a few people.

Meet Emily, TJ, and their son. They hired me to photograph their  City Hall wedding, The first time I spoke with Emily, I liked her right away. She was so excited about her upcoming marriage, it was infectious.  I had just met her and I was so excited, too.

When they stepped out of the elevator to meet me on the 6th floor, I was wowed by how beautiful Emily looked. I told her she looked beautiful.
Quickly TJ agreed, "I know, she does look beautiful! "……. So sweet.
TJ and their son looked pretty handsome, too.

There were several couples waiting before us. This gave me some time to get to know them better.  It was hard for their little guy to wait, understandably, but he was very well behaved. I was so impressed with the staff in the office. They interacted with him so kindly. They offered him candy and even suggested that he could ring the bell if he wanted to. Of course he wanted to, what kid wouldn't want to.
Finally, it was their turn. The very friendly staff ushered us into the office of the Boston City Clerk, Maureen Feeney. She was very apologetic for the wait and instantly made everyone feel welcome. She went over all the paperwork and explained the ceremony. I was so impressed by how warm she was and how she made  them feel as if their wedding was the only marriage ceremony she had preformed. She never made it feel like, let's get this done. She took the time to interact with them personally and made special time for their son.

She asked him how old he was. He insisted that he was 3 years old.

He is actually 4, but he recently turned 4. I love how he is looking at his parents to see if it is okay to take the lollipops that are offered.
Picture
She even let him play with the glass award that was one her desk and ……………...

…….the antique typewriter.

Let the ceremony begin!

I Love the expression on the little guy and on Emily and TJ.

My favorite part…….
Picture
I love romantic stuff! They are so in love!

After the ceremony, Emily said something to the effect of , "Well, that's over with!" Without skipping a beat, TJ replied, "No it's just beginning!" Gotta love this guy!

We head outside for some more photos.

A Few Thoughts on the Ice and Snow

Snow can be so pretty, especially when it is in contrast with water and sun. A fresh coating of white on the trees looks beautiful. As you can maybe tell, the above 2 pictures were not taken this year. They were taken Dec. 6, 2009 at Lake Massapoag here in Sharon, MA.

This winter, I can't even get into the beach parking lot because it is not plowed out. Every time it snows, which is every other day, the following day is windy and frigid, so the snow is blown off of the trees and the lake frozen solid, no contrast. The sun has been out  about twice in 2 months. Also, there is no where safe to park if you want to take a picture.
Picture
As the snow gets deeper and deeper, heavy equipment has to cut away the snow banks to reveal sidewalks and to make roads wider. You can read the cutaway sections of snow like the layers of the earth's crust. There is a white layer on the bottom covered with a layer of dirty snow and sand from that first storm. Each storm has left different layers. Not a lot of melting has gone on, so the layers have stayed in place.
Picture
(Taken with my cell phone. A rare moment when I didn't have my camera and wished I did. I stink with cell phone photos.}

Picture
There are icicles everywhere. Even the snow banks have icicles.

These may look pretty, but when they lead to ice dams, which should be named in reverse, the frustration and damage they cause is not so pretty.

Okay, here is the pipe that vents our furnace. Look what has formed underneath it......(Children may need to close their eyes)

What the heck is that?

And in the front yard........

It looks kinda like a bird trying to take flight.

The following is another cell phone picture.

This is a pretty typical scene around here nowadays. What isn't typical is what I saw right after I took this photo. The guy in the florescent pants to the far left, took a pee right off the edge of the roof.

The same day, as I was driving down  Main St. in Sharon, I looked to my right and saw a man decending a ladder that was up against a house. All of a sudden, his pants slid down and his backside was shining like the moon for all to see.
So I guess, excess snow brings things out in men that we don't normally see in public.

Picture
I guess the water is warmer than the ice.
Picture
This is an image I took on,.... well you know when and you know what time I was out and about. We will not be able to call this the Blizzard of 2015 because it wasn't the only one.

Truth be told, I like snow. I have always liked snow. I am always disappointed during those winters that we have very little snow. I do have to admit, this year is the first time I have felt like, enough already. It makes me feel old that I am not all excited every time it snows. It is snowing right now as I type this. Since we have come this far already, I am hoping that we either tie or break the record for the snowiest winter on record.

Oddly enough, there hasn't been as many power outages as you would have thought with all of this snow. Just looking on the bright side.
Well, that's enough rambling on ice and snow.
