These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things (Photos)

It's now 6:18 am on Sunday morning and I have been awake since 4:30. I am not sure why I can't sleep, but thinking about photos probably is not helping. I started thinking about some of the photos I have taken and realized how much a part of me some of them are. I can't remember the little things like where I've left my keys or what I was supposed to pick up at the store once I've gotten there, but I can probably recall every single picture I have taken in the last 8 or 9 years.

What do I do with all the photos I take?  Well before I went into business, I organized them into albums and stored them on Flickr, a web photo sharing and storing site. I have over 44, 000 photos stored there. I still store many of them there , but now I also use Dropbox. I constantly revisit and use these stored photos. They are very personal to me. They are not all good. In fact, some of them are downright awful, but they are import to me for different reasons. Maybe other photographers can relate. They are just such a part of me.

I would like to share some of my favorites with some commentary on them.

The opening photo is of Humphrey, the classroom hamster I had while teaching. In the morning before the students arrived and in the afternoon after they left, I would have many conversations with him and he seemed to be listening. He was very interactive and a wonderful pet.

This is my friend Allie and here dog Jake. They have a special relationship that this photo highlights.

The contrast of the soft, colorful light and the spiked branches, along with the lighting on the bird, make this one special.

I fished this sand crab out of the pool at our rented house in the Outer Banks. My fellow photographer friend and I took many pictures of this really cool guy. Unfortunately, he met his demise after we photographed him. He fell of the wall and didn't survive the fall. I did feel really bad.

This was Sprite, my very special dog. Look closely, he was after the cat and neither of them should have been on the table. His expression is priceless.

Speaking of expressions..........

This is Freddy. He spent 2 summers  in our pool and was very entertaining. He drove the dogs crazy.

Maddie on the day of her acting audition for NYU.

It's all about contrast of light and of shapes here.

Mist rising always adds to an image. I happened to have my camera in the car on this early morning. This is actually on the edge of a parking lot behind a school in Sharon.

I just like the composition and colors of this one.
These next 2 are all about repeating pattern and colors. The Brimfield fair is an excellent place to get these type of picture. That's where these were taken.

This one cracks me up. Just look at the shades!

I just love the clarity of expression and the lighting.
Picture
This just tells the story of my brother's relationship with his dog, mutual love.

One of my very early pictures done with a point and shoot camera. It just looks like an old fashioned painting to me.
Picture
I love the focus, lighting, bokeh and the expression.

I was in Faneuil Hall in Boston and I saw this little girl. I usually just shoot without asking if they don't notice me. But I knew I wanted to get right in on her when I saw her. I asked her mom if it was okay to take her picture and she agreed. I wish I had thought to get her address so I could have sent her a copy. I love how it turned out.  The word "Joy" on the wrapper of the cone just sealed it for me.

This is my most recent favorite. I love when that just right moment comes along.  Thanks for  looking at a few of my favorite things.

After 31 years of teaching, I have decided to retire and start a new chapter of my life as a photographer. It has been my passion for about 7 years now.
